Basgo saysStart with HomePod mini. HomeView? Gear first.

Apple’s 13 October “Welcome home” launch brought three gadgets, and for once all three are coming to India: a smart display called HomeView, a new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2. The brochures are thick with home hub, Matter, Thread, Siri AI, Wi-Fi 7, Secure Exclaves. Here’s what each term means, and what each box is worth in an Indian home.

Prices and dates in India

India MRP On sale US price
HomePod mini 2 ₹18,900 30 October $149
HomeView (tabletop or wall) ₹39,900 13 November $299
Apple TV 4K (4th generation, 128GB) ₹39,900 13 November $299

The wall-mounted HomeView needs a mount sold separately: ₹6,900 (USB-C), ₹8,900 (wired to mains) or ₹14,900 (wired network power, early 2027). Older models cost much less at launch. The original HomePod mini was ₹9,900 and the 2022 Apple TV 4K ₹14,900, though Apple had already raised both in June 2026 over memory costs.

“Home hub”: the one term to understand first

A home hub is the device that keeps your smart home running when your phone isn’t there. It runs automations (“lights on at sunset”), lets you control things from outside the house, and is required for Matter devices. All three new products can be your hub. You only need one, and it should stay plugged in at home.

“Matter” and “Thread”, decoded

  • Matter is a shared standard backed by Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung. A Matter plug or bulb works with Apple Home, Google Home or Alexa, so you’re not locked to one brand.
  • Thread is a low-power mesh network that Matter sensors and plugs use to talk to each other and to your hub. Mains-powered Thread devices relay signals for the others, so the network gets stronger as you add more. All three Apple boxes speak Thread.

The India catch: Apple launched a range of partner cameras, locks and thermostats from LG and Schneider alongside these. None of it is sold in India. Apple’s own India accessories page names no brands yet. What does work here: Philips Hue (through the Hue Bridge), WiZ lights and TP-Link’s Tapo P116M Matter plug (about ₹1,000–1,400 on Amazon.in). Indian brands are only beginning to support Matter.

HomeView: a 7-inch control panel for the house

HomeView is a 7-inch square touchscreen with speakers, running Apple’s A18 chip. It works as a home control panel and a music and video player, does FaceTime through its 12MP camera, and doubles as a photo frame and clock, a recipe screen and a timer. You can stand it on a counter (with a tilting speaker base) or mount it flush on a wall. The screen shows less from across the room and more detail as you walk up. It can also show up to nine live camera feeds at once.

The fine print matters here:

  • It needs an iPhone or iPad (iOS 27.2 or later) to set up and to add each person. Android-only homes can’t use it.
  • It recognises who’s in front of it by face and voice and only then shows that person’s calendar and messages. Apple says that processing happens in Secure Exclaves, a walled-off part of the chip that apps and even Apple can’t access.
  • There’s no App Store. It runs Apple’s own features, not your favourite apps.
  • Siri AI is a beta, in English only in India.

Apple TV 4K: smarter box, steeper price

What’s new over the 2022 model:

  • A19 chip, with up to 50% faster CPU and up to twice the graphics speed.
  • Three far-field microphones, so you can talk to Siri hands-free across the room, without the remote.
  • Wi-Fi 7, with Gigabit Ethernet and Thread now standard, and one 128GB model.
  • AV1 decoding, a newer, more efficient video format some streaming apps use.

What isn’t new: it still outputs 4K at up to 60 frames per second, with no 120Hz, and the design is unchanged. At ₹39,900, early coverage agrees it’s hard to justify for streaming alone. It makes sense as a hands-free Siri screen and home hub in a house already full of Apple gear.

HomePod mini 2: the sensible way in

The new mini has a faster S10 chip, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 6, Thread and a temperature and humidity sensor. It can pair with another HomePod mini 2 for stereo, work as a Mac’s speaker, or join an Apple TV for four-speaker surround sound. Its top glows in time with your music, though a software update has brought that to the original mini too.

Two honest notes. Apple isn’t claiming better sound, since the speaker hardware is essentially unchanged. And Siri AI isn’t on it at launch; Apple says it’ll arrive in a free update, with no date. It also can’t stereo-pair with an original HomePod mini.

“Siri AI”: what you get in India

Siri AI is Apple’s more conversational Siri. It can follow a back-and-forth, answer general questions and, with a compatible iPhone, use your calendar and messages. In India:

  • English only. No Hindi yet. Regular Siri understands English mixed with Hindi, but with Siri AI on, it replies in English.
  • It’s labelled beta on HomeView and arrives later on HomePod mini 2.
  • Apple’s fine print lists the shorter “Siri” wake word only for US, UK, Canadian and Australian English, so in India you may still need to say “Hey Siri”.
  • Apple says some heavier Siri AI use may need a paid plan in future.

Running costs

The boxes work without subscriptions. Security camera recording, and recognising faces, pets and packages in the footage, needs iCloud+: ₹75 a month for one camera, ₹219 for up to five, ₹749 for unlimited. Camera video is end-to-end encrypted, and Apple says Siri requests stay on the device or on its own servers, which don’t store them.

Honest verdict

  • HomePod mini 2 (₹18,900): the one to start with if your household uses iPhones. It’s a good small speaker and a home hub in one. If you already own the original mini and don’t need it as a hub, keep yours. The sound hasn’t changed.
  • Apple TV 4K (₹39,900): for heavy streamers in Apple homes who want hands-free Siri on the big screen. For streaming alone, it’s a lot of money for the same 4K picture.
  • HomeView (₹39,900, plus a mount for the wall version): wait. It’s a smart idea, but in India the cameras, locks and sensors it’s built to control are scarce, Siri AI is in beta and in English only, and there are no full reviews yet. Build your smart home first. A HomePod mini 2 hub and a few Matter plugs or bulbs will do it.

Questions people ask

Are HomeView, the new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini 2 sold in India?

Yes. HomePod mini 2 costs ₹18,900 and goes on sale on 30 October 2026. HomeView (tabletop or wall-mounted) and the new Apple TV 4K cost ₹39,900 each and go on sale on 13 November. All three are already open for pre-order on Apple's India store.

Can I use Apple HomeView with an Android phone?

No. Setting up HomeView, and adding each person in the home, needs an iPhone or iPad on iOS or iPadOS 27.2 or later. HomePod mini 2 also needs an iPhone or iPad to set up. In an Android-only household, these aren't for you.

Does Siri AI work in Hindi?

Not yet. In India, Siri AI works in English only, and Apple hasn't announced Hindi. Regular Siri understands English mixed with Hindi, but with Siri AI switched on it replies in English. On HomePod mini 2, Siri AI isn't even there at launch; it arrives in a free update with no date yet.

Do these need a subscription?

Not for the basics. Recording from security cameras, and recognising faces, packages and pets in the footage, needs an iCloud+ plan: ₹75 a month covers one camera, ₹219 up to five, ₹749 unlimited. Apple Music needs its own subscription, and Apple says some Siri AI features may later need a paid plan for heavier use.

Which smart home devices work with Apple Home in India?

Anything marked Matter or 'Works with Apple Home'. In India that includes Philips Hue lights (with the Hue Bridge), WiZ lights and TP-Link's Tapo P116M Matter smart plug. Apple's own partner range of LG and Schneider cameras, locks and thermostats isn't sold in India.
